Just doing dummy things I considered myself an expert but when I came to the industry I felt that I was nothing. The reason is that my base is not in the right direction. In the initial phase, while learning the basics of BIM software, it’s equally important to deepen your knowledge of constructability principles specific to your field. For instance, mastering how to draw a conduit in BIM is valuable. However, without an understanding of constructability, you might make critical errors, such as placing a conduit through a shear wall, which is structurally unsound. This dual focus ensures that you not only know how to use the tools but also apply them correctly within the context of real-world construction practices.

In this phase you can learn from the seniors who do their work in a smart way utilizing add ins and practicing the tools in Revit. It consist the little details like copying, mirroring, aligning, trimming, filling the data in the property of elements, etc. So by utilizing the right tools and add-in at the right moment can save your time and effort on a critical and tight deadline project with proper quality. Conducting self-quality checks (QC) before moving on to other modeling tasks : In the BIM field, timely QC can save tons of time and reduce the back and forth with the coordination team. Ensuring your work is accurate and meets the required standards before progressing helps maintain workflow efficiency and project integrity.

Proficiency in advanced modelling techniques is essential. Dive deeper into creating complex geometries, parametric modelling, and using families and components effectively. Understanding how to manage and manipulate data within the model is also vital. Regularly practice these skills to stay sharp and efficient.

La importancia de dominar técnicas complejas y de crear elementos detallados no puede ser subestimada. Personalizar paredes, escaleras y techos, así como trabajar en el diseño del paisaje, no solo eleva la precisión y calidad del trabajo, sino que también facilita la comprensión de todos los involucrados en el proyecto. La práctica constante y el esfuerzo en aprender nuevas técnicas son esenciales para avanzar en este campo.

Mastering modeling for an architect is akin to mastering writing for an author. ✍️ Our models are a fundamental way we express our ideas and vision. It is crucial to have a deep understanding of the authoring software used in BIM. 🛠️ This knowledge ensures effectiveness and enables you to convey your concepts precisely. The more precise and detailed your modeling, the better you can utilise your BIM. 📐 For architects, it is essential to create high-quality geometry populated with accurate parameters. This precision is vital for effective collaboration and project success.

BimObjects & Bimsmith, are great example of free & pre-made components. In my field, there's an add-in called 'eVolve Electrical' which includes a dedicated family browser, providing numerous families related to electrical components ready for use in modeling. This accessibility is beneficial, saving significant time and effort in creating these elements from scratch. Understanding Parametric Families is key to efficiency. For ex. by creating a single condulet family with various diameters of condulet nested within it, and applying the correct parameters, you can produce multiple instances from one family. This approach not only saves time but also optimizes space within the project file, making your models more organized and manageable.

Lo más útil relacionado a bibliotecas BIM han sido en primer lugar páginas (BIMETICA, BIM object, entre otras) con este tipo de recursos donde muchos de ellos vienen con breve explicación de cómo utilizarlas, además de husmear en los elementos como tal para ver el funcionamiento de sus parametros y a partir de ello crear mi propia biblioteca.

Familiarise yourself with the extensive libraries available within BIM software. These libraries contain pre-built components and materials that can save time and ensure project consistency. Learning how to create, customise, and manage families, is key.

Si bien las Bibliotecas que encontramos en internet como páginas o creadores de contenido que generan estos componentes, nos llegan a facilitar en algún punto o momento, no es lo ideal llenar un Modelo de Información con estas, Es más recomendable y practico llegar a desarrollar nuestra propia biblioteca con componentes personalizados, con nuestro lenguaje gráfico, información y comportamiento que nos facilite el manejo del modelo de acuerdo a nuestras necesidades

La capacidad de personalizar y reutilizar componentes puede transformar significativamente el flujo de trabajo, ahorrando tiempo y mejorando la precisión. Además, la creación de tus propios elementos de biblioteca no solo cubre necesidades específicas de diseño, sino que también te posiciona como un innovador en el campo. En mi experiencia, invertir tiempo en dominar estas bibliotecas y en desarrollar nuevos componentes es una de las mejores maneras de maximizar el potencial de BIM en cualquier proyecto.

La mejor parte y que en teoría debería ayudar a la industria del diseño y construcción es la parte colaborativa ya que permite interactuar de manera previa con el proyecto y ver cómo este sería en la realidad, a su vez que nos permite la detección de problemas previo a la ejecución del mismo y nos pemrite la interacción con los profesionales quienes contribuyen en el proyecto, enriquecienlo.

I love the flexibility of BIM software for it is a tool that incorporates many aspects of the design phase into one simple application. Very useful for new projects or to analyze existing buildings.

BIM software offers powerful analysis tools that can help optimize designs for performance, sustainability, and compliance. Learn how to use these tools to conduct energy analysis, structural analysis, and cost estimation. Being able to analyze and interpret data from these analyses is crucial for making informed decisions.

Strukturanalysen für die Kalkulation. Die im Modell vorhandenen Geometriedaten können im Vergleich mit den vom AG bereitgestellten Mengen für die Kalkulation wertvolle Informationen liefern. Die CPI-Datei (Revit) oder ein IFC-Modell für die Bearbeitung in ITWO sind erforderlich um dann über den BIM Qualifier, Qualitätsprüfung und Datenübergabe des Modells durchzuführen. Im nächsten Schritt werden dann über ein Leistungsverzeichnis, welches in der Ausstattung bemustert wurde Mengen über so genannte QTO-Mengenabfragen, Normkonform erstellt. Mit der Modellbasierten Mengenermittlung können zusätzlich Analysen für die Kalkulation für den Bauablauf, Personal- und Gerätebedarf (4D) erstellen werden. Entwürfe machen einen Auftrag wahrscheinlicher.

Ya que el mundo BIM avanza constantemente, es bueno el estar puliendo nuestras habilidades con nuevas herramientas y conocimientos, ya sea a través de cursos, diplomados, foros, entre otros, muchos de estos son gratuitos y permiten la interacción con otros profesionales expertos en el área.

Once you are an expert on BIM such as Revit, there are many resources for sharing models and small projects. For example, when working on a project for university, we were able to input models like specific water heaters and toilets. This helped with showing exactly where these elements would be and were accurate to our analysis. This integration helped to represent our design accurately for students in other faculties.
