In reallity most of IT Operations Managers I had, had only slite idea about what was going on technically. To my humble opinion, management is for people and recources, not for technology itself, what makes good managers (IT or whatever technology) is to hire-angage right recources and rellay and trust people in the operation/project team and lett them grow. If manager has best technical skills in the team, he is basically doing poor job. So solid basic fundation yes I agree. Most important. Manager should have Master skills in understanding people, avoid missunderstandigs in the team, get right person in right position, look after and resolve deadlocks in processes and cooperation. Start new processes if needed, point in right direction!

Actually I believe that a good leader has had experience in the tasks he/she are responsible for. I found that leaders that have in depth experience tend to roll up their sleeves and just complete tasks without including their team members. A good leader should coach and mentor their staff and provide them with the guidance instead of completing the tasks for them.

Here are some strategies that can help you build confidence in the workplace: Understand your strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Knowing yourself well allows you to focus on your strengths and take steps to address any weaknesses. Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. Achieving these goals will give you a sense of accomplishment and boost your confidence.

To some feedback is well received and to others they take it as a negative. Once feedback is given it is up to the recipient on what to do with that feedback. Sometimes it might sting but at least you know what it is you need to work on whether you stay with the company or leave the company.

I find that is many organizations there is a lot of surface level communication but details are left out. We seem to becoming an increasingly superficial world and it’s important to make sure that in our relationships, personal or professional, that we put some energy into to them. Communicate deeply and meaningfully. Add relevant details, make communicating worth someone else’s time, be it a co-worker or a customer. If you have something to say, make it accurate, helpful, and timely.

Well the answer to this point is certainly different for every leader. Building confidence among the team is something which needs continuous effort. Be it supporting them when they need it to the most, nurchering fellow colleagues, upskilling and most importantly creating a respectful open discussion environment where they can share their ideas, concern, etc openly with each other and of course when the management values it.
