You're training a new employee on operating specialized machinery. How can you ensure their success?

I think the key way to understand the safety system of a machine is to perform a risk assessment for the machine. This will not only educate the operator about the specific piece of equipment but also develop a mental process of evaluation of risks. Part of this evaluation could have an ergonomic component such as a hard to reach map. Anything that is deemed unacceptable should be noted and possible corrective actions could be assigned to address the concerns. Examples of these could be a safety scanner to prevent operator exposure to dangerous areas or a platform to allow for a more ergonomic loading height.

In addition to this, check the implentation of safety rule while handling the machine in order to avoid the any incidents. For continous safety practises improvement, understand & notified the observed hurdles during operation with respect to safety. Last but not least periodic training necessary.

In my experience, having the right people involved early in the process can improve retention of expertise. This starts with choosing the best equipment. I repeat the best equipment! When you try to save money at the expense of equipment, it rarely works out as a net positive benefit! Identify potential Subject Matter Experts that will be able to support the equipment once up and running. Possibilities to consider are: supervisor, trainer, shift-lead, mechanic, engineer, business advisor. I think the best times for learning equipment are FAT and SAT. The FAT will have the benefit of OEM resources which can provide very good conceptual understanding. However, the CQV will be the first looks at how it will work in the final form.

Fully agreed, continuous assessment and two way discussion in vernacular language at shop floor will provide more clarity deeply to understand process / challanges.

Using a social media type of environment like Microsoft Teams is a very good way to keep communication current and accessible. It should have organized sections to keep the information organized. If you are not engaging your team member with this tool it will not be effective. This will require you to brush up on Hashtags and other forms of encouraging involvement. This way you are not sending out 30 person emails. Minimize the use of meetings and when having a meeting keep the attendance to a minimum. Meetings can bog down employee moral when unnecessary.

For training of new employee on specialized machine shall be trained in planned and structure way. This will include industrial safety first, product and human safety. Followed by behavior training aligning to KPI and tecialized training for specific operation /machine. Then he should assessed for his performance, machine health, and many more cGMP prospectives. If need such specific team development can be discussed and designe excellence training approach.
