If you're collecting data via questionnaire or recording an interview it is important to start it with a disclaimer stating the requirement and background of your research and also add on details of confidentiality of data usage. You should also mention about it is a voluntary contribution and they can back out anytime in between the collection process. In more sensitive topics you could be more precise and ask the respondent whether they would be comfortable to answer and continue. For example, add a question inside your questionnaire like whether they're willing to participate in the research study.
