The cheapest & effective way to use competitors to your advantage is by scanning them. Your competitor's blogs, websites, articles, and even sometimes their clients/customers can provide you valuable insights. You can get free results from them. Just don't start big, start small and it is ok sometimes not to be as fancy as your competitors. You should focus on your customers at the best.

I like inspiration. I get this from everywhere from my personal life to my peers to my team members to everyone. Nowadays, I try to listen more to get new perspectives. Just don't get negative inspired.
