Sure, people like stories but they also like to choose someone who they trust the most to solve their issues. That’s what matters in the end. In fact, you can be disliked in a pitch as a person, and end up closing the deal because you’re the most valuable, trusted and believable vendor who pitched.

A best practice is to take screen shots (pictures) of all your best of these ‘conversations.’ You can later share these with other prospects. Do not fall into the temptation of emailing them. Instead, explain that they are proprietary to you; that these are coming from your phone to theirs (not from the company email.)

They help conjure vivid metaphors that evoke sensations, whether sight, sound, smell, or touch, making them a potent tool in your toolkit. When designing your presentation deck, avoid cluttered slides. Instead, opt for simplicity and accentuate with impactful visuals!

When I entered advertising, every agency I went to had a fixed template for pitching. The same 10 headers, the same information. When I started my own agency, we decided to break the pattern with every document we created. We add corny jokes and stupid brags according to what industry the client is from, what our experience in the industry has been. It of course helps that we don’t pitch very often. So it’s easier, and less time consuming.

Typically in a pitch clients will meet many agencies. So much of the story telling, pitching, is similar. How will you stand out. it could be the work...how compelling. But it should also be how memorable you are/your team is; are you solving the real problem that will grow their business; do you deeply understand their business (how did you learn this). Do your research on the company and the team beforehand and know who the key stakeholders are. And then lastly, show your human-ness and that you care! The last thing anyone needs is to feel that they are at the receiving end of a sales pitch. It should be a genuine conversation about how you can add value to their business.

Rejections are hard, there is a lot of work and time that goes into creating tailored pitches and then it falls on the losing part, it is painful. But this is the process as professionals we commit to and improve. What one can do it to observe, learn, and iterate on all parts of the process. It can be answering queries, communicating, the way of speaking, this helps to boost confidence and add the pitch of trust to your voice.

No one likes to see all this cool stuff they will never be able to afford. As a former Chief Marketing Officer, I'd make reps give me the overall price up front. If I only had $100,000 to spend and you show me a $500,000 campaign, you're wasting my time. Having a good idea of your prospects budget is critical in the pitching process.

Keep it interesting with less words on the slide and incorporate audio to keep them on their toes.
