What are the best ways to follow up after a second interview?

In my experience as a recruiter and on the other side, as a candidate, a Thank You email is extremely important within the first 24 hours of the interview, it helps the recruitment team to see how serious and excited you are with the opportunity, and take this email as an opportunity as well where you can add and attach documents you have promised or mentioned to send in the interview; such as (References, Certificates or Credentials) related to the job you are applying for. When doing that, it helps the recruitment team to make an educated decision, having all the information they need in hand and available.

Assuming you sent a follow yo after the first interview, try utilize a different mode of communication for the 2nd interviews thank you note. Though it could be a bit longer to do so, writing a hand written note and sending it to the interviewers or dropping it off to them directly can set you apart from the bunch. In the event of a very competitive position that has many applicants, this could be a very wise distinction.

Absolutely try and be patient, understanding that other candidates need to be met with and that your next steps should be provided to you soon. There is very little chance of being completely ignored or forgotten now… so just be patient. Let the system play itself out. Wait for at least 3 days and then consider sending a check-in email, only if there weren’t clear timelines provided when your second interview concluded. Otherwise… sit tight and don’t try to be “helpful” by reminding them that you’re still eager to join or have an additional interview.

Bottom line, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Make sure you are building a solid base of career opportunities and do not rest because you have one company interested. You want to establish a competitive situation where you have several companies interested in your skills. Without this, you will never know your true value. This is not the time to be comfortable.
