What behaviors build trust and credibility in leaders?

Authenticity is fake. If you're trying to be authentic, you've already failed. Authenticity has to be unfiltered. Otherwise, it's not authentic.

Transparency is a leading attribute of a great organization leader. When effective communication is laced with transparency, it is a respect to your team which they value and appreciate. Showing up as one of them, identifying your mistakes and sharing thoughts for improvement with them shows open-minded and learnability attribute of a leader.

Trust is a 2 way street. To be trusted - we have to trust our colleagues that they make the correct decisions. Listening to your team and understanding their challenges by being empathetic can help in a long way. More importantly be the shield for each and evey person. You can guide and mentor them individually - but be ready to shield them against unfairness and judgmental bias in most organizations

- Transparency is most important factor in building trust. Therefore, promoting the environment of transparency within the team is imperative. - Not only through words but also through sincere action assure the team that whatever crisis comes, you as a leader will stand by them & take it on yourself. - In case of any failure, own up the responsibility instead of passing it onto the team and, in case of success handover the credit to the team.

In my experience, modeling vulnerability goes a long way to foster an inclusive work environment. Asking questions and being curious are expressions of a leader that knows that uncertainty and accelerated disruption demand a collective effort to solve increasingly complex problems. When I ask executives what "good boss" shaped their careers, 90% of the time it is a leader that was interested in listening, asking questions, learning different viewpoints. People share opinions and perspectives when they deem safe to do so. Wearing only the "expert" hat, precludes innovation and is strategically unsound.

It’s been said that the SVP tier of some organizations is the “victory lap” of the org chart - that the leaders who arrive here are talking much but doing little. In order to establish a reputation of excellence, you must continue to make a practice of partaking in the tactical duties of the team members you supervise. In my old fighter pilot community, when a pilot reached the strategic leadership role of Wing Commander and led thousands of people from every function, he or she would have much less time for flying themselves. But it was CRITICAL that they retain some sense of flying skills and currency in the aircraft - to help retain the team’s perspective and to maintain their credibility.

Ductus exemplo: lead by example. Leadership isn't about making decisions or issuing orders; it's about behaving in a manner that inspires others. Demonstrated competence and reliability are foundational to this.

Reliability as a leader isn't just about meeting deadlines; it's about consistently embodying your values and principles. It means being a steady presence, someone your team can depend on in the face of uncertainty. By consistently aligning your actions with your words and demonstrating unwavering commitment to your team's success, you establish a foundation of trust that inspires them to follow your lead with unwavering confidence. Further, being competent in your job is not limited to just your technical knowledge. Your people skills and knowledge will go along way. Learn to build your arsenal of expertise when it comes to managing interpersonal conflict, challenges and opportunities as a Leader. Learn to manage different personalities.

Performance and accountability should matter at every level. That would create a right environment to achieve the goal. Equally important to acknowledge mistakes and be open to course correction, if needed. That would creat confidence and trust in the leader!

In my experience, leaders who model what they expect from others through their actions and behaviours form trusting relationships with their teams. You know what to expect and when they hold you accountable, you know they hold themselves to the same standard.

Make them understand and once they have understood,automatically the organisation will grow.

We can empower our team by: ▶️ Allowing my team members to make decisions within their areas of expertise. And let them choose how to approach tasks and solve problems. ▶️Assign challenging tasks to them by giving them opportunities to take ownership of specific projects.

There is a lot of value in treating followers/collaborators as people and not just another set of talents and brains to guide. Little gestures such as buying a coffee, sending birthday cards, little individual appreciation messages go a long way. Like I mentioned before, everyone has their own authentic character that they're bringing into the table. It boils down to how well you are balancing guidance and individual autonomy in those you lead.

Delegation is one of the best ways to empower as well as gaining trust. It helps organisation train their future leaders. Carve out your reward policy to appreciate team on achieving even smaller milestones. Acknowledging their contribution in team meetings or through emails creates a positive environment and healthy competition. This develops a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.

Pushing decisions to the lowest level possible and empowering those people to make and take actions on those decisions is the quickest way to build trust within an organization. While every decision made may not be optimal, treating each of those as learning moments further solidifies trust. Done correctly, trust results in common purpose, alignment, and an organization can executes with agility.

I would say that I am not the fairest, I have my own biases and I tend to be pretty short with those whom I thought aren't competent for their roles. I mitigate this by delegating some of my interactions/decisions into whom I think is more fair than me.

Being ethical and fair is the bedrock foundation for a good leader. Ethics is such a huge part, and those on your team need to know you walk the walk and are a person of your word. What trips up a lot of good leaders is the word fair. They think it means that if you do it for one, you have to do it for everyone, and that couldn't be farther from the truth. Fair is giving each individual person what they need to be successful and the best version of themselves. So what is given to one employee does not always translate to other employees. But by looking at each team member as individuals, getting to know them and then getting them what they need to succeed, then you being the leader they will follow forever.

Integrity and ethics form the bedrock of exceptional leadership. They represent an unwavering commitment to truth, a fearless embrace of moral principles, and a courageous stand for what's right, even in the shadows. Leaders with impeccable integrity possess a magnetic quality, effortlessly attracting trust. In a world where integrity is as rare as a precious gem, becomes the guiding light of dependability, which will cast a path toward success.

Uma boa comunicação não é a quem possui bom conteúdo, e sim a que está no formato adequado, de acordo com o receptor. Comunicar-se bem é sobre como o outro te entende. Por isso ela deve ser chave nas relações, se adequado para cada um do time. Quanto a se conectar, não há muita técnica e sim um enorme interesse genuíno pelo bem do outro. Líderes se servem por último.

In my opinion, a leader who is self-aware of their own strengths and overuses and openly shares with others to actively seek feedback for continuous improvement is a leader worth connecting with. This enables a space where others feel comfortable sharing their strengths and overuses and feel confident they can ask for help for their improvement. We humans have the best intentions, we just get derailed sometimes and need a little support along the way without fear of judgement or shame.

I was asked to transform a project that was 2 years behind schedule and the client was furious. For the past year they had been promised 10,000 products to be delivered each week when sometimes only 1000 were delivered. After spending a few days reviewing the site, listening to staff and seeing the issues I had my first client meeting. I started by saying "We won't be delivering 10,000 this week, the team needs to be fixed first." The client angrily said "Stop promising us 10,000 when you can't do it..." Then paused and asked if they had heard me right. At that moment the relationship changed and trust was formed. Together we transformed the project and concluded it 2 years ahead of schedule and they became our best reference.

Effective communication and connection are vital for building trust and credibility in leaders. Clear, open, and frequent communication helps leaders convey their vision, goals, expectations, and feedback to their team members. By keeping lines of communication transparent and accessible, leaders create a sense of understanding and alignment within the organization. Connecting with employees on a personal level, showing empathy, and actively listening to their concerns and feedback build rapport and trust. Leaders who demonstrate genuine interest in their team members' well-being and professional growth establish strong connections that foster a sense of belonging and loyalty.

Comunicar sem julgamento, impulsiona a vontade de se conectarem com o líder. Promover a política do erro, acompanhado pelo feedback, permite o crescimento individual e das equipas. Estar aberto ao diálogo, disponível e mostrar-se vulnerável, acaba por criar intimidade, levando a relação entre o líder e o liderado a outro nível de confiança e comunicação.

Don't hide your passion for your company or organization and/or its mission! Part of leadership by example is setting the tone for how you expect your team to represent the organization and live its values. You can't expect your team to have passion for your work or mission if you do not weave it into everything that you do in the workplace.

Also be Open to ideas from team! Unless we give the member a chance to try out their approach, trust would be only a one way street. 'Let go' of your own approach, step back, let the member try their approach, even if you know it may or may not meet the objective. Stand back, ready to support when they ask for it. (This is the toughest for a leader!) :)

Credibility is a function of - Competence - Character - Commitment It needs to be demonstrated in everyday behaviour and not just as words.

As the son of a successful small business owner, I learned early in life to never ask anyone to do anything that I was unwilling to do. Simple actions such as taking the office trash out or washing a few coffee mugs show your team that you are one of them. While you may be in a Leadership role, you are one of the team and willing to do what it takes to help the team succeed in whatever capacity is necessary. My role as a Leader is not to ensure that the project is accomplished well and on schedule; my role as a Leader is to ensure that those who are committed to working on the project have what they need to complete the project well and on schedule. Therefore, I should address anything that could preclude them from accomplishing this goal.

In a past role, the culture was toxic, filled with politics and blame games, eroding trust among colleagues. To counter this, I used three strategies to build trust with my peers: 1. Avoid Gossip: My non-participation initially irked people, but eventually gained their respect. 2. Focus on Issues: I steered conversations towards problem-solving rather than blaming individuals, fostering constructive dialogue. 3. Emotional Intelligence: In a climate of rumors and blame, I remained calm and objective, relying on facts over emotions. Building trust is a long-term commitment; patience and consistency are key.

Building trust and credibility is less about grand gestures and more about consistent, authentic behaviors. Trust is built not only through consistent actions but also through consistent values. Leaders who are clear about their values, and who align their actions with these values, are seen as more credible. It’s about integrity – the alignment of words and actions with inner values. Leaders who take personal accountability for their decisions and actions, especially when things go wrong, gain immense respect and trust. Blame-shifting erodes trust, whereas owning up to mistakes and learning from them enhances credibility. These behaviors, when practiced genuinely and consistently, build a foundation of trust and credibility.

Leadership title is earned and not given. Leadership entails the following traits; 1- Clear defined vision and strategy 2- Influential communicator with storytelling technique 3- Promoter of collaboration, transparent communication 4- Ability to connect with people on a personal level 5- Empathetic and supportive of new ideas and suggestions 6- Holding themselves accountable to others (no one is above board) 7- Ability to identify the talent, mentoring, training 8) Delegating and empowering the team 9) Receptive to criticism and agile approach 10) Be the go to person in times of crisis 11) Ability to hold team together & lead by example 12) Approachable & available In short, a true leader, knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.

Having a sophisticated knowledge of industry trends and clear ideas about how the organization should respond to them . Eliminating unnecessary reporting structures and careless spending, establishing new strategic roles, or investing in technology that improves operational efficiency or business effectiveness . Leaders are perceived as trustworthy and credible when they communicate and behave in a consistent manner. This means making decisions that aren’t contradictory. If you want your employees to trust you, you need to start by showing that you trust them. If you want your employees to be open to change, be change-ready yourself. Demonstrate your values in how you talk and act to establish credibility and authenticity as a leader.

It is about always being authentic, not just as a leader. What they see is what they get. It is who you are. On top of that, nothing is more valuable than your word; when you make a promise, you deliver. Finally, it is about being genuinely interested in your people and supporting them consistently.

In addition to above, I would say just listen to your guys. They are smarter lot, they know you as well as your situation. Sometimes you may not be able to act but listening to them is good trust builder. Don't be artificial as you are so you are. People respect your natural self. It helps in trust building
