The most important parameter to avoid internal team conflicts is to impart a deeper understanding of the goal needed to be achieved by the team. If the structural engineers know why these aero people want to achieve this particular flow pattern and if the aero people understand why the structural engineers are not able to accommodate certain design changes, the obvious next step is to sit together to come to a consensus where both teams can be happy of the solution and be aware that they can bring out the maximum optimized performance without compromising on the main project's goals.

While communication is a key component of their work, it is interesting to note that current maintenance human factors training tends to focus on communication between maintenance personnel. This is reasonable given the negative repercussions which can result from poor coordination at shift handover and it is, therefore, understandable that the majority of communication training tends to focus exclusively within the maintenance organisation itself.

Integration of strategies vary with the projects but for some projects, my preference would be that both the aero and structures teams will have to work together and share each and every design update within the group. For some projects that need very high aerodynamic performance with structural constraints, I feel it will be best to have one Aero-Structures team. This team would find it easy to use integrated software as they know that both departments carry a high value concerning the project's requirements.
