How do you persuade your audience to share your vision?

The most powerful "why's" are emotional, not factual. When your "why" is bigger than just you, it can engage a massive audience. Southwest Airlines didn't form to save people money, their "why" was "to be a champion for the common man, making travel fun." Share your mission, the big picture. If your goal is to persuade an audience to think differently and use your new, innovative product, share the "why" behind the product that drove it to come into being. How will it improve people's lives. What are you helping people avoid? Go deeper than "improving outcomes". The real "why" is always much deeper, a personal or philosophical change that improves your audience's lives.

YOUR WHY WILL NOT WORK IF IT ONLY FOCUSSES ON BEING RELEVANT When it comes to establishing the "why," we often concentrate on making things pertinent for the audience, which may sound like, "If we do this, you will become that." The concept of relevance engages the audience on a cognitive level driven by analysis. However, what we truly need to achieve is resonance. This entails contemplating how to evoke a familiar experience in my audience when presenting the "Why." By narrating a story and demonstrating through my "why," I aim to illustrate how things can transform for them.

Actually, your audience is likely to care about your why when it matters to THEIR why. Which is why your vision should be about serving the needs and dreams of your ideal clients. You might have a personal why and a professional why, but in the context of business storytelling, the ultimate why is theirs. When you have that why as the basis for your brand storytelling, using the power of why becomes easy. You simply tap into the transformation you're looking to make happen for your ideal clients.

What’s in it for Them? Explain how your vision benefits your audience. Describe the tangible benefits your vision offers. Whether it’s improving their lives, solving a problem, or providing new opportunities, make it clear how your vision benefits them. People are more likely to support something that positively impacts them.

Sharing a big vision can often feel too conceptual to grasp and too large for the audience to chew on at the onset. Your narrative needs to hold their hand as you reveal each part "to" and "with" them. So instead of starting big.. why not start small? I do a lot of improv theatre and someone once explained this as 'the art of zooming out.' Improv scenes begin with one prompt, then slowly as the scene partners exchange lines we start to 'build the world' -- prompt by prompt or brick by brick 🧱 We like to say 'build a brick, and not a house.' 🏠 It is the same with building your narrative: what bricks do you bring first, what order do the next ones come in, and does it end up being a 'house' (vision) that can persuade your audience?

When you base your brand storytelling on the shared vision between yourself and your audience, you can craft a narrative that centres around them. Place your ideal client right in the middle of the story. Where are they now? Where do they want to be? How does your shared vision serve the transformation they desire? The best narrative framework for transformational storytelling is Joseph Campbell's the hero's journey. Your audience is your hero, your shared vision is the end result of the transformation. Ask these questions: - What's the status quo today? What's the known? - What does the transformation look like? - What does reality look like on the other side of the transformation?

Engage emotionally. Stories are powerful tools for persuasion. They make your vision relatable and memorable. Start with a personal anecdote or a success story that illustrates the impact of your vision. People are more likely to connect with your vision when they see its real-world application.

Engagement is absolutely KEY. I see many posts daily with comments and zero engagement from the Author. If your audience/ tribe takes the time out of their busy schedule to comment and engage with your content engage back. It makes them feel seen, appreciated and more importantly valued. I also recommend engaging in other people's posts, if you appreciate or find value in someone else's post acknowledge it or add value. These efforts are not in vain, they will inspire your audience to be part of what you have to offer and vision.

Your vision should be largely interlinked with your audience's story. And the easiest way to engage your readers is by linking the vision and your brand storytelling to them. If you're sharing anecdotes, make it anecdotes that are likely to resonate. Use hooks that speak directly to their dreams and desires. Craft your narrative entirely around your audience, and they will be engaged.

First and foremost, stop trying to persuade your audience of anything. Inspiration occurs when folks come to their own conclusions, not when conclusions are foisted upon them. In those cases, we almost always resist. Your story and your goal have to be in service of your audience. They need to feel welcomed by your story in order to feel invested in it.

Do you want your readers to be sitting at the end of their seats bobbing their knees with anticipation? You have to have some variety. Instead of going up from down. Show variety. I did something great! It failed. I tried again! The government praised me for it! Everyone else hated it. I finally learnt to love myself. Until this problem knocked on my door. In the end, this problem became my ultimate opportunity. And end with a line that you want to share with the world instead of the moral of the story. Don't rob your readers of the fun of coming up with their conclusions. Stories will give different message to everyone, let them have their personal opinions safe with them.

Remember: no one cares until you convince them to. No one cares about your cheeky night. Or the new dog you rescued. Or that your contact lenses are two different prescriptions. What is in it for ME? The answer: Education or Entertainment. Are you making me care because this is funny? Are you making me care because I’m learning something interesting? If it’s neither of these things, I’m not sure why you’re telling me. No one wants to hear a boring story that has little utility to them. Keep your story focused on intriguing an audience rather than yourself. You’ll thank me later.

Being authentic is all about speaking with your heart and being present in that moment. That helps your team / audience gain trust and see a part of their own life in the story you just painted.

The art of persuasion lies in understanding what the audience wants and aligning your goals with their success. How are you painting the viewer or the customer as the hero? How are you helping them? If your story meant to persuade starts with you, your company founding, your office building, your mission - stop right there. It's easy to misunderstand what authenticity and credibility really look like. They come from the success stories of people you have helped, your years of experience, and your genuine passion. But don't start by talking about yourself. Let authenticity show through your experiences helping people just like your target, your viewer or the customer in front of you.

By telling the story of how your vision was shaped by the transformation you would like to support in your ideal client, your audience is more likely to connect with you, trust you and buy from you. Do this by taking a deep-dive into the humanity of your audience and the humanity of yourself. What are your common denominators? What experiences have you had that are relevant and interesting to them?

Here's another point in this regard: Authenticity is a MUST. It's so important to always remember that earning trust is not easy. But losing it is the easiest!

If you performed the data analysis- and your company pays you to do research- then you have a duty and the professional authority to suggest what your audience could be thinking, feeling, or DOING differently after hearing your story. Not providing ideas or suggestions for action is just leaving the door open for your audience to become overwhelmed with analysis paralysis or apathy. Both won’t inspire actionable change.

The best way to call to action is by using desired future communications - that is, to paint a vivid picture of what life will look like after the transformation your ideal clients are seeking. When you do this, you show that you understand where they are today, but they are far more likely to take action in a positive psychology mindset. That means you should place the most weight on the AFTER of your vision for your ideal clients.

To get people to join your vision, tell a story that connects with what they care about. It's like painting a clear picture of the awesome future you're dreaming of. Share relatable stories to make your vision feel real and exciting. When you want them to do something, be super clear about it. Whether it's signing up, sharing, or doing something else – make it easy. Show them how their action contributes to something meaningful. Make it feel like they're part of creating something great, not just hearing about it. It's about getting them excited to be part of your cool vision.

This is where many storytellers fall short. They don't include a clear and actionable next step folks can take. There is no better time than the present to call folks to action. Once the story is over, each second move them further from it and further from action. Knowing the outcome you're hoping to achieve through your story will dictate the CTA you use to invite them to take that next step with you.

Figure out the Roles, Goals, and Values of YOURSELF, then apply this method to analyze your audience. Then from there- you can determine how best to edit your narrative to elicit the right thoughts, emotions, and actions from your intended audience. Chances are- if your story isn’t hitting the mark- you don’t have a good grasp of your audience’s functions, goals or beliefs. If you don’t know this- it makes it much harder to inspire action.

Your story should be unique to the audience you want to serve. Don't write for the set of audience that would never look at your writing. Your first priority would always be the readers waiting for your content If you have readers looking forward to read from you. You got nothing to worry about your type of audience would come to your themselves.

Tailor your message to resonate with your specific audience. Consider their values, interests, and the challenges they face. By making your vision relevant to their lives, you can increase their willingness to support and share your vision. Understand your audience: Research your audience to identify their priorities and concerns. Customize your presentation: Use language and examples that speak directly to your audience’s experiences.

Cut down on the jargon - speak like you're talking to a friend - focus on the heart of the story. This shift has opened more doors for me than I can count.

The easiest way to write to suit your audience is to always seek their feedback, watch their reactions and be on the platforms they love the most. This way, you know what they like and can adapt to their perspective. I always advise storytellers to define a persona for their audience and write as that persona - in advertising we call this the bulls-eye Target audience. Knowing who they are, what they like, their lifestyle and how they make their choices would help you craft a story that fits into their world.

Lo que más cautiva de una historia es la autenticidad con la que te llega. Cuando quieres trasladar un mensaje que conecte, procura hablar de los sentimientos reales que te provoca, de las sensaciones que genera en ti. Qué piensas, qué sientes, qué reacciones se activan en tu cuerpo. Emplea frases claras y sencillas, con recursos y frases que asocien a ti o a tu marca. Eso es lo que da forma a tu propio estilo, ese que engancha, porque es coherente contigo por dentro y por fuera. Si no, la magia no sucede. Más que persuadir, invita a los demás a acompañarte en ese viaje del Storytelling, como quien invita a conversar.

1. Be passionate about your vision even if others aren't. Eventually, they will start caring seeing how much you care. 2. Bring the vision closer to the audience. Link it to their lives and priorities. Focus on the 'we', not the 'I. Show them how associating with the vision will benefit them. 3. Make audience members take part in achieving the vision. Allot action items to them. This can keep them engaged, involved and and take ownership of the vision. 4. While narrating the vision, don't fret about hiding your flaws or vulnerabilities. Making them known may help you gain trust of the audience. An 'all too perfect' visionary seems more institutional and less human.

For anyone that wants to make their message hit home: 3)Think about who is listening, like figuring out what gift to buy for a friend. 2)Share stories like you're sharing secrets, making each listener feel special. 1)Use words that feel like a warm hug, not a handshake.

You're never going to be able to persuade everyone to follow your vision. But if you tell compelling stories that demonstrate your passion and connect with audiences on an emotional level, you're going to attract followers over time who want to be part of your story. You just have to be persistent and consistent.

Only when a reader can resonate with a story told, she can share the storyteller's vision. You must identify the intent and set upon a goal and then make a plan regarding the approach. You have to make the story so compelling that a listener should stay until the end, where you've placed the message.
