I always recommend to do the follow up in written. This way it is more difficult to retract and you can also keep track of the trade offs you made to make sure you are still interested in the offer.

Being careful about documentation is the key here. Nothing verbal in the corporate world stands any value. Follow up for the documentation on CTC/Salary before you confirm the acceptance to offer. If you are fresher, consider taking help of an expert.
