It's super critical to ensure that analyst understand the difference between Perosnal Identifiable Information (PII) data fields vs. regular data. Not everyone in the organization needs to have access of that data so ideally there should be non-PII datasets created for data mining exercise unless specifically required for any use case.

An example I have seen in e-commerce companies how they mask the PII information such as Customer name, credit card details, phone number etc. for all internal analysts and only customer support teams have access to those datasets and that too with a proper audit trail. Similarly, the dashboards or reporting products have an authentication or row-level security enabled for restricted information access.
