How can you identify stakeholders impacted by a BI problem?

Business Intelligence (BI) plays a significant role in the insurance industry. The important industry use cases are as below: Customer insights - risk analytics based on customer demographic and geographic profile and driving history Prospects insights Policy premium/sales by region, line of business or individual customer Claims payout by region, line of business or individual customer Insurance claims – fraudulent claims analytics Personalized marketing for specific customer groups Personalized customer recommendations (health habits (or) driving behaviour) Customer lifetime value (CLV)

Every aspect of a business is a Business Intelligence (BI) problem. Assessing the current or potential impact of each issue and evaluating its urgency and criticality determine whether you choose to tackle it first or at all.

No business is possible without business intelligence, PERIOD. Every business consumes and generates a good amount of data such as data generated from various sources, such as customer interactions, transactions, social media, and operational processes. In this digital age, to keep everything optimized and make data-driven decisions, one can not drive the business without analyzing the data. Growing businesses in any industry must create a data-friendly ecosystem to accommodate a data-driven culture that makes it possible to run business intelligence programs across the organization. The key aspects of the BI program are- - Data collection and integrations - Data warehousing - Data analysis and reporting - KPIs - Advanced analytics

Business intelligence is the key to unlocking actionable data, providing the foundation for measuring performance, setting goals, identifying risks and achieving sustainable growth. Without the analytical power of business intelligence, companies would lack the ability to adapt swiftly to changing market dynamics and evolving customer expectations. Ultimately, the statement holds true: no business can thrive or even survive in the competitive landscape without the guiding light of business intelligence.

A BI problem is a situation where certain pieces of a business' puzzle don't fit well or are missing - a data chaos that can be fixed that meticulously gathering, organizing and analyzing each puzzle piece for a bigger picture.

We must also listen to the voice of our customers as stakeholders. Their needs may require an organisation to consider new categories of BI for improved services or solutions.

It’s simple… It’s important to identify stakeholders because everyone plays a different role in a company, and in order to add value, you should be having the correct conversation with the correct person.

Stakeholders are crucial in the realm of Business Intelligence (BI) as they bring diverse perspectives and expertise, shaping the scope, objectives, and success criteria of BI projects. Their involvement ensures alignment with business goals, validates analyses, and fosters a comprehensive approach to data quality, security, and overall project impact.

One way that I always find helpful is utilising the concept of decision trees and start from the very top, dividing each problem into their sub-problems and what we are delivering and thus identifying respective stakeholders in each node

Additionally, stakeholders using their knowledge and domain expertise can also help you to identify other stakeholders that you may not previously be considering. This ultimately ensures that there are no surprises down the road

When addressing a BI problem or solution, ensure comprehensive stakeholder involvement by considering the following: - Identify Key Departments: Recognize units heavily reliant on data for decision-making. - Engage Leadership: Involve top management and executives to align with strategic objectives. - User Involvement: Include end-users and operational teams for practical insights. - Data Governance Teams: Collaborate with teams ensuring data quality and governance. - External Partners: Consider external partners or clients influenced by BI outputs.

As strange as it may sound...use your data. Look at key areas/services that are impacted by poor data quality, lack of management information...these can be found usually through complaints, satisfaction feedback, service desk calls, even KPIs which are off target can identify were BI problems might be a root cause. Alongside that you utilise standard methods such as look at the existing user base of your BI tool, survey them to identify those who utilise it the most. If you have a data quality group or data governance board they'll be places to start, and if not take the standard data governance roles such as data owner, steward, producers and consumers and see how they fit in your business as this will also help identify stakeholders.

Identifying stakeholders can vary and depends upon what kind of information is required in order to get desired results. For ex: If someone wants to open an icecream bar and wanted to know what kind of icecream and flavours are mostly preffered by the people living in that area is by sharing a feedback and an interactive survey fliers with every visitors of the bar which will help the bar owner to optimise it's bar operations as per the infomation recieved from the feedback and fliers.

I feel an interactive mode of communication must be devised to engage stakeholders to design best BI strategy. Constant input by stake holders may be used as to create a perfect BI model.

Communication is most important step in any engagement and often most BI projects get impacted because Project Management is never considered essential part of BI projects. Most often I have seen people exchanging information over emails, slack, zoom or multiple channels which often impact incomplete capturing data, documents and timelines. This problem can be addressed by setting up request intake system to gather requirements from business and building centralized channel to capture data files, documents or any other important project material. Asana and JIRA are tools which can be used to manage BI projects. Starting from building request intake form to managing requests on kanban boards.

Projetos de BI exigem mentes inquietas, e nada melhor que bons grupos de discução para fomentar boas idéias. 2) Além disto, é importante manter o bom e velho plano estratégico da empresa bem comunicado e claro para todos. Iniciar cada reunião, relembrando as estratégias, os objetivos da empresa, e direcionando o projeto para sempre seguir esta bussola.

Clear communication with the stakeholders is absolutely important for a successful delivery of a program. It’s better to get a stakeholder buy in to any solution through focussed meetings/ workshops before it’s put to the larger business groups. Not only the solution, it’s important to call out its limitations if there is any. Sometimes, it’s prudent to challenge the expectations and explain to the stakeholders that the cost of the solution will outweigh the benefits, if that is the case, rather than try to deliver an unwieldy solution. The success will be when the stakeholders present the solution to the business and the Consultant is just playing a sporting role in that session.

First have a clear roadmap to share and make an agreement with. After that keep a routine where the BI team can share how they are going in each phase.

We can understand their expectation by communicating on regular basis throughout the project ensuring they are satisfied with the outcome in each phase of the project.

Can be difficult I think a key component is constant feedback loops, so any changes, deviations, confusion is picked up early rather than waiting to the end (link to the Three Ways). Another method is clear requirements, with success factors linked to them to know that we've met them...not to dissimilar to th V Model approach. Being honest I believe is key don't oversell or overpromise...it's too easy to try solve all problems and deliver every wish, t's not possible so be honest with stakeholders...Don't promise a Porsche give a Picanto, and at the same time be firm with stakeholders when their wants are our Porsche but their budget/resource/requirements only allow for a Picanto (nothing against Picanto's :))

The beauty is when decision makers can drive actionable insights based on the illustrated data Highlighting the current attrition rate to a business leader is good. it is better to tell the leader what can be done to lower this rate 2. Integrating Analytical Solution Integrating the insights from an analytical study to recommend actions in another analytical study is what makes analytics enabler to the business Illustrated attrition rate - identify employees with high turnover probability - focus on critical employees - identify their motives and advise leader how to retain them This is an example of how 4 analytical studies are integrated and resulted in a recommended action

The BICC's essential duties encompass delineating precise, achievable targets, formulating a pragmatic and attainable BI roadmap & proactively pinpointing capability shortfalls. Additionally, the BICC is tasked with strategic prioritization of BI projects and the effective resolution of any emerging conflicts. A strong sponsor & diverse stakeholders from different backgrounds, along with the active involvement of biz and technical SMEs who have the domain knowledge, are key to the success of the BICC.
