How can you create a personal mission statement that aligns with your job search brand?

Consider what truly motivates and drives you in your career. Think about your strengths, skills, and the impact you want to make in your chosen field. Identify what unique skills, experiences or qualities set you apart from others. Your values should align with the company culture and industry standards. Highlighting shared values can create a stronger connection with potential employers.

Core values are what drive you as a person. If you’re really committed to following your values, never settle for anything less than a company that embraces what you stand for. Try and describe it in your own words without thinking too much about marketing yourself or you might risk losing your authenticity. How would others describe me? What is important to me in (professional) relationships? I’m not a big fan of communicating core values as “selling points” towards businesses, it should rather be the other way around. What type of companies would I thrive in ? Which environment would resonate with who I am as a person and professional and can support me in pursuing my personal goals, vision and values?

Just look at what people want in your niche and make it a mission to give it to them. You'll see way more success in your life when you focus on giving people what they want in life.

Core values demonstrate the real YOU. So bring out your core values be it being a team player, a leader, a good listener etc. Be real and don't just bluff.. Be genuinely yourself..

In my experience getting clear on this first really matters. Ask yourself what you truly want. Don't say you want to be a CEO of a corporate firm, if actually your dream is being a barefoot nomad. You can be successful doing both, but certainly get your vision clear.

Bring out your USP. Why you are different from your peers or how differently you can contribute to the Company. Showcase your key strengths and differentiating factors..

Your strengths tend to be the things you do without even realising you're doing them. They get you into a flow state and time flies like you're not even working. Bear in mind, that your strengths aren't always what everyone tells you they are... relying too much on external voices can lead you to tell yourself a story about what your strengths are that aren't truly yours.

Keep it super simple and write in really short sentences. Don't make a potential employer or partner feel small or stupid with long words and even longer sentences. Make it easy for them.

It is important to keep abreast of what is happening in the market. The balance between your strengths, authenticity of message and clarity of your value add are key factors to a powerful and compelling statement.

Something that has always helped and stayed with me is You have 30second to impress/wow me who are you, use key descriptive words, Examples Tenacious, friendly, outgoing, What will make me want to learn more, THIS STATEMENT WILL BE DIFFERENCE, between an employer wanting more or just skipping past you.

This is tricky I think. A brand is how others perceive you, hence even a mission statement can be interpreted in different ways with as many variations as you have acquaintances. Ensuring your experience and actions follow a consistent story throughout your profile, I think, also requires one to reach out as much as possible. No better way to solidify a brand than to have a myriad of validators from a broad industry range.

Here's a promotion/raise example that ties everything together: "I use my strategic thinking and relationship building strengths to lead people and generate loyal customers. As a result our team turned around the underperformance of Product X and increased sales by X. We're on target to double that this year, while also taking on Product Y. I believe the value of that turnaround and the goals we're poised to deliver this year is worth a promotion and a market value raise. How can we work together to make that so?"
