Today, companies must understand that CSR is not a separate strategy, but the company's strategy itself. when a company is driven by a CSR purpose, instantly its people will be engaged and connected. People feel proud of their company if they connect their life purpose with that of the company. And of course, they will be more engaged to participate in the activities because it is something they are motivated to do.

Involving your employees will no doubt increase ownership and commitment. Allowing them suggest causes they are passionate about and of course aligns with your brand's goals and strategy helps strengthen their commitment to CSR activities.

One important factor is to implement HR policies that encourage and support volunteering. By giving employees a certain amount of hours or days per year to volunteer during working hours, employees are much more incentivized to participate rather than relying on them to do it only in their spare time. Also, consider making it an activity where a group of employees can participate together to encourage camaraderie.

As part of our benefits package, we give employees 2 days a year to use towards volunteering. This incentivizes and encourages employees to take part in efforts close to their heart. We also implemented a reward and recognition system 2 years ago, which has had a huge impact on our teams. This has helped to build on our culture, reinforce our values, and drive engagement.

In my view, CSR activities are most effective when they are bottom-up rather than top-down. In our Singapore office, for example, the CSR committee is run entirely by volunteers who regularly organise activities such as beach clean-ups or food donations for the underprivileged. While such initiatives are very much in line with our corporate values of "we care, we share, we dare", it is our employees who make them come alive. As well as doing good, such CSR activities help to build stronger bonds between employees, who also feel a sense of pride when we showcase their volunteering on the intranet and on social media.
