Just a side note.. Empathy is a heart condition, not a "good behavior". It comes from emotional energy that we direct into our towards others emotions as they experience life. It's not, " I feel so bad for you", although that can be a nice thing to say. More empathetic words might be, "Oh, I am deeply saddened with you. Tell me a bit more about your grandma's love and life". Stay emotionally present, hearing the emotions in your friend's stories about Grandma. When friend is done talking (might not be the same as when you are wanting to be done listening), you might say, "I can sense your grandma's joy and good life. So glad she's given you good, powerful and meaningful memories! "
