Working remotely requires the use of multiple forms of communication. Chat tools work very well for sharing information, updates, and keeping the work going asynchronously. Video calls can be helpful for building rapport and for generating ideas. And consider audio communications (yes, the old fashioned phone or conference call) for resolving thorny issues. Audio allows us to pay attention to tone and check in with others differently than a video call.

Always have a back up plan for days when you have to be online. Use your phone for internet or find a local cafe or friend’s house to work from. Inevitably, the day you have an important meeting, the power company accidentally cuts a line!

Time is a diamond. Because its economical value can't be compared. If it is lost you cannot get back. It is very fast and no one could hold it .so there should be skills to manage it .

In smaller meetings (6 people or less), hold space at the top of the call for each individual to share a brief personal or professional high (or low, if they’re comfortable). In larger groups, use the chat feature to hear from everyone. At the beginning of each season, it can also ask people what they’re looking forward to.

A commute helps transition you from work to home, but when you work remotely and do t have that commute as a buffer, it’s easy to just answer that one last email. Create a routine to close down at the end of the day and signal that you’re done with work. This can be as easy as closing all your computer tabs or writing down your top priorities for the next work day or taking 10 deep breaths.

Give yourself some space and some grace, and offer the same for others - some people (like me) LOVE remote work. Other folks really struggle and would much rather have the community of the office 5 days a week. There's no right or wrong answer. I think the "problem" happens when, like a lot of things, we assume that our own lived experience is universal. Inevitably we'll have both/and situations. If you're in-person and need to include the remote folks, ask them how they want to be included... then do the same when it's the other way around. It doesn't have to be hard.
