Way back in 1983, I was trained in computers at the India Today magazines group. Many sceptics at that time saw the investment by the group in computers as a huge wastage of money. They thought an ordinary accountant could easily manage what the computers did in those days. The top management however thought differently and were willing to invest in future technology. Just a few years later there was a great divide between those who learnt to use computers and those who did not. Many lost their jobs which was so tragic. I can hear similar noised on AI which can either be adapted or ignored. Those who ignore this massive change particularly in the media industry may regret it as the cost of their future.

You don't have to enroll in a formal degree program—there are plenty of online courses, webinars, and tutorials that can help you acquire new skills. Continuous learning to keep pace with technology is critical as the speed of change is many times greater than it used to be a decade back. Everything is digital now and AI is all set to add hyper changes in the way we work in all walks of life. New inputs as well as output can easily be controlled through AI as most of publishing is based on sourcing from external agencies and agents. Journalists need to understand this change and be highly creative and innovative. Days of business as usual are over. One can not match the speed of technology however there are niches which are yet to reached in media. Focusing on specialized subjects and local news now provide excellent opportunities for growth due to digital reach.

Networking is critical for learning from global experiences and exploring opportunities. Digital platforms like LinkedIn provide the perfect opportunity to connect, attend online and offline confereneces, accessing information from global sources and so on. LinkedIn is just the right platform with latest technology enablers and I have been using it successfully to build a large network over the past few years in 11 diverse communities. An hour a day on LinkedIn can keep you networked and well informed so simply add it in your daily habit.

With its latest publishing features and the group announcement feature, posts on LinkedIn one can easily check out the number of responders, quality of responders and the location of the responders. These anaylytics have guided my and my team into building a huge response base with a post view of over 2 million in our network on LinkedIn. It's very important to use technology to reach out to the right audience as well as to assess the response factor for ensuring the right mix of reach and quality.
