The Prince of Wales, 41, was photographed sitting next to his son, 10, as they watched the UEFA Europa Conference League 2023/24 quarterfinal match between Aston Villa and Lille OSC at Villa Park on Thursday, April 11. Both William and George are fans of Aston Villa, according to Good Morning America.

Neither Kate, 42, nor their other children, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, appeared to be in attendance at the game. The outing marked William’s first public appearance since Kate announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22.

William and George were both on their feet as Aston Villa emerged victorious over the opposing team.

‘Part of the Pride’

Aston Villa has seemingly become a bonding point for the father-son pair. Sunday Paper sports reporter Neil Moxley asked William if George was “part of the pride,” and the heir to the throne replied, “Oh yes, he’s loving it,” Moxley shared on X.

Father-Son Date

The soccer match marked a rare public outing for William and George in recent days in light of Kate’s health battle. After several weeks out of the public eye, the Princess of Wales announced in a video on March 22 that she had been undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatments for an undisclosed type of cancer. Kate explained that she wanted George, Charlotte and Louis to fully understand her situation before she made it public.

The Future King

The fun outing also comes days after a source exclusively told Life & Style that William is “torn” over how best to ease George into the idea that he will one day take over as king. “He’s beginning to prepare George, but he still wants his son to have as carefree a childhood as he can — like his mother, [the late Princess] Diana, allowed him to do,” the insider said.
