WNBA star A’ja Wilson got her teammates a very gay cake for Pride Month

The Las Vegas Aces got a special message from their power forward A’ja Wilson recently when she presented her annual Pride cake to “prideful teammates.”

“Hooray You Gay” was Wilson’s affirmative message spelled out in icing — with a couple of hilarious illustrations accompanying the supportive words.

Bird is the winningest player in women’s basketball history and the fans made sure to tell her how much they love her.

Wavy rainbows and the colors of the trans flag joined sparkling disco balls surrounding the cake coup de grâce: a pair of glitter-covered scissors about to get… scissory.

Wilson, 27, declared her satisfaction.

“Every year I get my prideful teammates a cake for pride month 😂 this years cake was top tier and straight to the point for em,” she wrote in a post on Instagram from the team’s Pride night celebration in June.

Out teammate Sydney Colson reposted the pic in her own Pride Month round-up of thanks on Sunday, with a shout-out to her “A’lly” Wilson.

One reply read: “The scissors SENT ME. 💀”

Colson is a big fan of Wilson.

The two have been tight since Colson joined the Aces in 2019, and they helped take the team to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023. Wilson is considered one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time.

“She just gets it on and off the court. She knows what has to be done and I love how she’s unapologetically Black. Ain’t no code-switching. You are getting A’ja,” Colson told SLAM magazine.

Wilson started her career with the South Carolina Gamecocks, taking the team to their first NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship in 2017 and earning the tournament’s Outstanding Player award. She was South Carolina’s all-time leading scorer and voted All-American for three consecutive seasons before she was drafted first overall by the Aces.

This season, she’s averaging career highs with nearly 30 points per game, 11 rebounds, and two and a half blocks.

Later this month, Wilson heads to Paris for a shot at her second Olympic gold medal, along with an already-record-setting women’s basketball squad.

“Half of the USA team headed to Paris — at least six players — are LGBTQ+ and out,” according to Outsports. “That will make the USA women’s basketball team just about the gayest team at the Olympics.”
