Leicester City have confirmed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Michael Golding. The 18-year-old had been tipped to join the Foxes in a deal being struck separately to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s £30 million move to Stamford Bridge.

The highly rated teenager has signed a four-year deal, having carved out an excellent reputation thanks to his performances for Chelsea’s Under-18s and Under-21s side in recent seasons.

England youth ace Golding has been on Chelsea’s books for six years and made his senior debut in the FA Cup in January. He was only on the pitch for nine minutes but came close to scoring and setting up a goal.

Speaking to Foxes Hub, he said: “I’m really looking forward to making leaps and bounds in my career here at Leicester and working hard to help the team as much as I can.

“Obviously the history of the Club speaks for itself; there are great players here and I’m looking to soak up as much information as I can from the senior players, to learn from the staff and hopefully have a great season.”

The club says of the player that he is “... joining with international pedigree and a growing reputation as a creative player with an eye for goal.

"Comfortable playing in the no.10 position or slightly further back as a no.8, he is known for lung-busting forward runs and an ability to win back possession when required, as demonstrated during his rise through the ranks at Chelsea."

His move represents a significant step in his career as he transitions from Chelsea, where he started his journey after beginning at AFC Wimbledon’s academy.

The promising English midfielder has demonstrated considerable potential at various youth levels and during his time at Chelsea, progressed through the ranks, making his first-team debut in an FA Cup match against Preston North End in January this year.

He has captained England and Chelsea at junior level and he was described by the Evening Standard earlier this year as “an attacking midfielder who possesses good leadership skills” while his pen pic for England’s under-17s Euros squad last winter said: “One of three brothers in professional clubs’ set-ups, Golding is another who can play in multiple positions and has been very consistent this season.”
