Bella Ramsey’s The Last of Us has become one of Sky’s most successful dramas of all-time, new figures have revealed. The adaptation of the video game of the same name has been widely acclaimed, with its Leicestershire star receiving praise from critics and viewers alike.

The success has also been seen in viewing figures too, with the HBO drama, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK, recording 3.05 million viewers in the first seven days following its 2am premiere on Monday, January 16. The number puts it second only to Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, which launched last year on the channel.

Bella, who studied acting at Loughborough’s Stagecoach Theatre, stars in the show as 14-year-old Ellie, a teenager caught up in an end-of-the-world apocalypse where zombies now roam. She is taken in by fellow survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal) as they try and venture across the US to safety.

Viewing figures for the subsequent episodes have remained high too, with Sky revealing that episode three, which aired on Monday (January 30), out-rated the second episode in terms of viewers. The show has already been renewed for a second series - that’s after star Bella touted the possibility “if people keep watching”.

Zai Bennett, MD of Content at Sky, said The Last of Us had blown everyone away. He said: “With its standout episodes, the response to The Last of Us has been truly remarkable and the phenomenal viewing figures have shown just how infectious the series is.”

The Last of Us continues Mondays at 9pm on Sky Atlantic. Previous episodes are available on catch-up.
