The 2024 Diversity Scorecard

The Diversity Scorecard evaluates firms based on their ability to attract, retain and promote talent from demographics that are historically underrepresented in the legal industry. For the first time this year, the Women in Law Scorecard and LGBTQ+ Scorecard, traditionally published in tandem with the NLJ 500, are being published with the Diversity Scorecard. Going forward, all three scorecards will continue to be released annually as a single package.

Overall, Big Law's attorney ranks have gotten steadily (if incrementally) more diverse each year. Still, we know that aggregated statistics don't tell the whole story. Firm-to-firm stories vary significantly. In these scorecards, firms are scored based on their representation from these groups--overall, but also in partnership and leadership roles.

We hope these scorecards inspire ongoing progress on these fronts, but we are also mindful that DEI is a "team sport" in which the best kind of progress is industrywide progress.
