Organisers of a music festival have enlisted the help of children to name the two family activity zones at this year’s festival. The team behind OAK FEST is calling for any Hyndburn resident under the age of 12 to get creative and design a sign for both of the family friendly areas at the festival at Oak Hill Park in Accrington on July 27.

The designs must also include a name, and the two winning posters will be used on site as signage, so it’s a chance for the winners to put their imprint on the festival. To enter, children need to simply get creative and submit their design and name using an A4 piece of paper by Sunday, July 14.

The two winners of the competition will not only have their design showcased across the festival but will also receive a family ticket, granting entry for a family of four to enjoy the entire day’s festivities. OAK FEST promises to be a calendar highlight for families this summer and includes a huge lineup of activities taking place for all ages.

There will be a silent disco tent, energising and interactive performances from Bhangracise, a craft tent, storytelling and acoustic sessions, face painting, a magician, bubble blowers, access to the on site play park and more. Lucy Dusgate, Head of Culture and Heritage for Hyndburn, said: “We’re thrilled to invite the children of Accrington to play a key role in shaping this year’s OAK FEST by naming family activity zones.

“This initiative is designed to spark creativity and put the community at the heart of the festival. We want as many entrants as possible so please encourage your children to get creative and submit their ideas.

“We can’t wait to see designs from the kids of Accrington.”

OAK FEST is part of a wider vision which places culture at the heart of a strategy aiming to establish Accrington as a place where creatives from Lancashire and beyond can thrive. The festival, which is returning for its second year, has been commissioned as part of a new culture and heritage programme delivered for Hyndburn and Accrington by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

It’s a full day out with admission from 11am and there will be a free shuttle bus running to the park directly from Accrington train station.

Entries can be submitted by posting/dropping off your creation at Hyndburn Leisure Centre, Henry Street, BB5 4EP or snapping a picture of their artwork and either emailing to culture@hyndburnleisure.co.uk or posting to social media and tagging @oakfestaccrington
