A Preston woman has spend the last decade abstaining from saucy bedroom antics - and has no plans to change any time soon.

While 10 years without a bit of nookie might seem like a nightmare for many, Tania Schoultz swerves it by choice. The 52-year-old has refrained from sex – and even kissing – for a decade and says she has no plans to change her lifestyle.

Tania, originally from Zimbabwe but living in Preston, is far from alone - with Julia Fox revealing recently revealed she has not had sex for two years. The Uncut Gems actress jokingly said in a recent interview: "Nothing good comes from having sex - including the children.

"I think it's just like getting over anything - smoking, drugs, whatever it may be -eventually you just forget and then all that energy that you were putting toward sex, you can put it toward other things."

Tania, who works in e-commerce, said: "I kind of feel like it’s a subconscious decision. For me, my sexual energy is my power and by sleeping with people you’re giving away your power.

“People sleep with any Tom, Dick and Charlie. When I wasn't celibate and gave my love, it was because it had meaning.

"Now I'm totally happy without."

Tania says she feels like an "enlightened nun" after giving up sex for a little over 10 years - having stopped being intimate in 2014. She has been single ever since and says she doesn't miss intimacy - and doesn't even think about it.

Tania - who is gay - says she did not plan to be celibate but now finds it a "much easier life". She came out of a relationship in June 2014 and has since not found herself wanting to be with anyone.

"What I find interesting is I don't have a sexual appetite," she said. "I've been through the menopause - some people say you get a heightened sexuality when that happens but that didn't happen with me at all."

Tania believes that most relationships are too sex-focused and believes an "overly sexualised" society is causing relationships to break down.

"It's all just about physical attraction these days," she said. "And with men it's worse – if they are married, they are still looking. I used to work for an investment bank and they used to get really angry with men slinking off with staff and then going home to their wives."

Tania says her celibacy has made it much easier for her to develop "spiritual connections" with people that focus on individuals as a whole. She lost her virginity aged 21 – much older than most of her peers and says even back then she treated sex differently to others.

“I would see my friends go off and do bits and pieces but never inspired me, it never made me feel horny," she said. Now that I'm here, I would prefer to be like this forever."
