Fans have lent Paddy McGuinnes their support after the star posted a poignant tribute to his mum on Mother's Day.

The Bolton-born comic and presenter is often known for his cheeky, tongue-in-cheek updates on social media. However, on Sunday (March 10), he marked Mother's Day with a very personal message.

"I miss so many things about my mum," he wrote on social media. "Her wit, her smile, her soft face when she kissed my cheek - I even miss rubbing her aching feet after she'd been to work all day. Most of all I miss that feeling of being unconditionally loved. That no matter what she'd always be there to protect and love me."

Paddy's mum Patricia passed away aged 64, just as he shot to fame in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights. He then rounded off his emotional post: "To all you good, amazing Mum's out there, thank you for giving us the best gift of all - life and love."

He also wrote in the caption: "If your Mum has passed away Mother's Day is never easy. To those of you who've lost your Mum I feel and share your heartache. It helps me seeing my children making their Mummy cards and giving her hugs, what a feeling that was. If your Mum is still here then give her all the love she deserves, plus an extra hug from me. #mothersday #unconditionallove."

And it didn't take long for the messages to come flooding in. @leannerob11 said: "Ooh bloody hell. Well that hit me hard. I lost my mum 12 years ago and everyday I think about her and miss her. What I'd give for one more hug." @deeeezy123 commented: "This post resonates so much with me. For our mothers in heaven, you are so missed. For the mothers here, you are amazing."
