Officials say a man died after he was found shot multiple times in the parking lot of the Metra train station in Waukegan early Sunday morning.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 3:40 a.m. Sunday to the Metra station, 95 North Spring Street, for a report of a shooting.

Police officers arrived and reported finding a victim who had been shot in the parking lot, according to fire department radio traffic.

The male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, including his chest and neck.

Police requested the Waukegan Fire Department to the scene.

Paramedics arrived and confirmed the victim was dead at the scene from his injuries, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.

Newton said the victim is a male in his 30s and possibly a resident of North Chicago.

The coroner’s office performed an autopsy on the man Monday morning.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin. His identity and autopsy results are expected to be released Tuesday.

The Waukegan Police Department told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that information on the case was not immediately available.
