The driver of a 2024 black Kia Forte died following a traffic crash with a white BMW x5 in Lake in the Hills, authorities said.

Paramedics from the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were dispatched to the intersection of Algonquin Road and Harvest Gate Road for an accident with injuries at about 6:20 a.m. Thursday,  authorities said in a news release.

Upon arrival, paramedics began rendering medical treatment to both drivers before they were transported to Huntley Northwestern Hospital, authorities said.

The driver of the Kia Forte died at the hospital, authorities said. Their identity is unknown at this time.

The driver of the white BMW X5 was treated for possible injures at the hospital, authorities said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, authorities said, and the crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Regional Major Crash Assistance Team and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The official cause of the crash is pending autopsy and the conclusion of the traffic crash investigation.

Algonquin Road was closed in both directions for about four hours because of the 6:20 a.m. accident.

The roadway reopened at about 10 a.m.
