The National Weather Service says rain will continue for the Chicagoland area and some areas, including McHenry County, could see the rain switch to snow Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather outlook early Tuesday morning for the northern Illinois area.
The outlook includes Lake, McHenry, Boone, Winnebago, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois and Ford counties.
The outlook said rain, damaging wind and hail were possible for the area.
A band of severe thunderstorms may move along and east of Interstate 55 between 12-4 p.m. Tuesday with damaging wind gusts.
Non-thunderstorm wind gusts as high as 55 mph may occur along and east of Interstate 55 from 2-8 p.m., the outlook said.
The outlook said steady rain will mix with and may change entirely to snow along and northwest of a line from LaSalle County to McHenry County Tuesday evening.
Timing for the slushy snow is expected from 4-8 p.m.
A flood warning was also issued by the NWS for the Fox River affecting Kane, Lake and McHenry counties.
“A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property,” the warning said.
The stage was 8.7 feet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The flood stage is 9.5 feet.
“The river may rise above flood stage tomorrow morning and continue a slow climb through the remainder of the week to near 10.5 feet by early next week,” the warning said.
