Newly released records show a father who killed his family, including two children, and then killed himself in November in Buffalo Grove had previously threatened to kill the family.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department said last week they have completed their investigation into the Kisliak family deaths.
Buffalo Grove Police Chief Brian Budds said the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and investigators in the Buffalo Grove Police Department “worked diligently” to complete the investigation.
Budds said the evidence collected supports the initial findings that Andrei Kisliak murdered his family and then killed himself.
The department released its final reports and remaining records on the case.
According to 911 audio, a co-worker called police on the morning of November 30 asking for officers to do a wellness check on Vera Kisliak, 36, who lived in the 2800 block of Acacia Terrace in Buffalo Grove.
The co-worker said Kisliak had been going through a contentious divorce with her husband and it was unusual for her not to show up for work without notice.
Officers arrived at the woman’s home and were unable to make contact with anyone inside.
Officers spotted a “suspicious stain” on the kitchen floor, which they saw from a window, according to a police report.
A ladder was used and officers spotted “reddish liquid” on a bathroom floor that appeared to be blood as they looked through another window.
Officers then saw a small child lying on the ground surrounded by blood, the report said.
They forced entry to the home through the garage.
An elderly woman was found lying on the floor inside the home near the entryway to the garage.
Officers moved to the upstairs of the home and found three additional deceased subjects in a hallway, the report said.
The small child who officers had spotted through the window before making entry was located in a bedroom and also confirmed to be dead.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the five as Lilia Kisliak, 67; Andrei Kisliak, 39; Vera Kisliak, 36; Vivian Kisliak, 6; and Amilia Kisliak, 4.
Andrei Kisliak and Vera Kisliak were the parents of the two children, Banek said.
Budds said Andrei Kisliak killed his family members before inflicting wounds on himself and succumbing to those wounds.
The relationship between Lilia Kisliak and the rest of the family was unconfirmed by officials but neighbors said she was a grandmother to the children and the mother of Andrei Kisliak.
The five died from sharp force injuries, according to the autopsies.
Vera Kisliak’s sister told police on the day of the murders that Vera Kisliak had been afraid of Andrei Kisliak because he had said he would kill her and her family, a police report said.
Andrei Kisliak told his wife that he would “cut her family’s heads off,” the report said. The behavior reportedly started in August when the divorce process began.
Police records show officers responded to 14 domestic-related calls involving the family. All of the calls, except one, took place in 2022.
Vera Kisliak was the complainant in 10 of them, records show. Two of the calls resulted in Andrei Kisliak’s arrest.
Six of the domestic-related call responses ended with referrals to social services or other agencies.
Seven of the responses ended with Vera and Andrei Kisliak being separated.
During an August 23 incident, Vera Kisliak reported that her husband threatened to kill her, had a gun in the home and broke her phone.
Police on some occasions recommended Vera Kisliak pursue a divorce or consider obtaining an order of protection, the reports show.
The village said that the Buffalo Grove police social worker was working with Vera Kisliak and her daughters regularly to provide resources and referrals.
Lake County court records show Andrei Kisliak and Vera Kisliak filed for divorce on July 8.
One month later, Andrei Kisliak filed a petition for an order of protection against his wife. A judge denied his emergency request.
In his petition, Andrei Kisliak complained about his wife working full-time and not paying for any expenses.
He said that he had been working two or three jobs for the last 10 years of their marriage “due to her lifestyle.”
“Unfortunately Vera 10 years after entering United States as internet bride, still couldn’t find herself in life,” Andrei Kisliak said in the petition.
In September, Vera Kisliak filed a petition for an order of protection against her husband. A judge granted her emergency request and later issued a plenary order of protection.
The woman said that her husband had a history of violence and a history of possessing or using firearms.
The same day that Vera Kisliak’s petition was filed, a judge found her husband in contempt of court, and two weeks later Buffalo Grove officers arrested the man after he allegedly violated the order of protection.
Court records show a bank filed for foreclosure against the couple on November 9 after they had been behind on the mortgage for over two years.
A police report said Andrei Kisliak had come into a Palatine car dealership multiple times in the days leading up to the murder-suicide.
Andrei Kisliak was “desperate” to sell his cars, a dealership salesperson told investigators, according to the report.
“This tragedy has been felt by the Kisliak’s family, friends and neighbors, as well as our officers and support staff who knew them,” Budds said last week.
“I want to encourage the public to take note and share the important resources available to assist anyone experiencing domestic violence including but not limited to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (800-799-7233), A Safe Place (800-600-7233) and WINGS (847-221-5680) as well as our own Buffalo Grove police social services (847-459-2560),” he added.
