KUOW partners with Google to reach new audiences

November 19, 2019

Seattle, WA — KUOW is excited to announce a new partnership with Google. Starting November 19, Google Assistant's "Your News Update" will surface KUOW stories and interviews, enabling KUOW to reach a new generation of listeners and giving users in our region high-quality local journalism.

When users with a Google Home or a Google-Assistant enabled device say, “OK Google, play me the news,” Your News Update will trigger a custom playlist of short news features from media outlets around the world. With KUOW as a launch partner, local users will hear KUOW feature stories as well as segments from The Record and Week in Review, along with national and international news from other outlets. Google's launch partners include WNYC, WBEZ, WBUR, WAMU, KQED, KCRW, Associated Press, The Washington Post and more.

“KUOW has long been a local leader in producing high-quality audio news. We are hopeful that this partnership will introduce KUOW to new listeners looking for great local journalism that they may not have found otherwise” said KUOW Chief Content Officer, Jennifer Strachan.

In addition to reaching new audiences, we hope to gain insights on audio news consumption habits and interests on different platforms that will help guide our larger digital platform expansion strategy.
