MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Louisville coach Bobby Petrino acknowledged today that he met with LSU officials about the Tigers' job, but refused to say if an offer was made. He also refused to say if he expects to have more talks with them.

Petrino is in Memphis where the number seven Cardinals play tenth-ranked Boise State in the Liberty Bowl on Friday. Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich gave LSU permission to talk to Petrino about the job. It opened when Nick Saban left for the Miami Dolphins.

Petrino talked with reporters after a practice at the University of Memphis and described his encounter with LSU officials as ``a preliminary meeting.''

He added (in these words) ``We agreed my focus would go to the bowl game and to finish the season -- the great season that we've had.'' Petrino refused to answer any other questions about his intentions.

Nutt calls LSU coaching talk rumors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt says LSU officials have not contacted him about taking the job that Nick Saban left to coach the Miami Dolphins. Nutt says talk that puts him among the candidates for the job amounts to only ``rumors.''

Nutt said -- quote -- ``I don't feel like anything is going on there. I'm the Arkansas coach.'' Saban will coach the Tigers in the Capital One Bowl against Iowa on Saturday.

Earlier this year, Nutt turned down the head coaching spot at Nebraska. Nutt said that he hasn't talked to his agent, Jimmy Sexton, in a month. Sexton also represents Saban.
