VINTON, La. (KPLC) - Truck stops along the Louisiana border were having a busy day as drivers found themselves needing a break after driving through Hurricane Beryl.

David Loulay, a truck driver from Huntsville, Texas, left early Monday morning to pick up a shipment from Louisiana.

“Just left home a while ago, had to make sure the storm wasn’t too bad before I left the folks in the house. I fought it all the way over here,” Loulay said.

Loulay drove through the Houston area on his way to Louisiana, where got a first-hand look at some of the damage caused by Beryl.

“There were some big oak trees, big trees that fell down. I had to turn around in a two-lane highway just to get out of there cause no one was there to clean it up, but we made it. Took a little time, but we made it,” Loulay said.

In situations like these, drivers are advised to stay off the roads as wind gusts can cause a vehicle to overturn or deviate off course. If you must drive, FEMA says to slow down and exercise caution as roads and bridges may be damaged or covered with debris.
