MOSS BLUFF, La. (KPLC) - A woman’s trip across the country with her fiancé and her dog Banner took a devastating turn when Banner turned up brutally killed near a home in Moss Bluff.

Gracie Sills’ almost two-year-old Siberian Husky puppy was found in Calcasieu River with multiple gunshot wounds, just yards away from the home off Dunn Ferry Road where she and her fiancé were staying. Banner’s hind legs had also been bound.

“I’m still in shock... I can’t believe someone did this to Banner; he was my best friend, my support animal, and this was brutal and horrifying,” said Sills.

Shannon Carlson, the woman who owns the property on which Sills is staying, wants justice.

“We need to find out who did this to Banner and why, he was such a friendly and kind dog,” said Carlson. “I could understand someone shooting a dog if it’s attacking them, but that wasn’t Banner. This behavior is sinister.”

Both Sills and Carlson said they are hoping a suspect is apprehended soon to protect other pet owners in the Dunn Ferry Road area. Carlson said no pet is safe as long as this person is walking around.

“I know the case is under investigation, but we have to catch whoever did this horrific act. Who could do such a thing.. it was so much to shoot a dog, then bound his legs, then dump him in the river. I just can’t get my mind around it.”

Parish officials confirm they are investigating the case, but offered no details at this time.

Sills and Carlson urge the public to reach out to animal control and the police jury with any information that could lead to the arrest of the individual who ended Banner’s life.
