18-year-old facing charges of first-degree murder in Ernest Street homicide

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting last weekend on Ernest Street that left one man dead.

Jemarques Malachi Chapman, whose address is listed in Lafayette, is facing charges of first-degree murder in the shooting that happened just before 10 p.m. on June 22.

Lake Charles Police responded to the scene in the 2700 block of Ernest Street, where they found Jaden Cade Weber, 23, of Sulphur, lying in a parking lot with gun shot wounds, according to Lake Charles Police spokesman Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum.

Weber died from his injuries the next day.

Chapman was arrested in Eunice on June 27 with the assistance of St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies. His bond is set at $1 million.
