Former South Beauregard athlete Trinity Spooner looks to make U.S. Olympic Team

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Trinity Spooner is a former javelin thrower at South Beauregard High School and currently competes for LSU, on Friday she will have the chance to solidify her spot on the Olympic team as she competes in the U.S. Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

As a college freshman, Spooner placed third at the SEC championships (174 feet, 1 inch) and seventh at the NCAA championships (179-10) to earn U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American honors.

The first round of the finals will be three throws and the top eight will move on for three additional throws. The top three finishers go to Paris but must reach the A-standard of 210 feet. So far this season, only Malone-Hardin has reached that mark with a 213-3.

The women’s javelin throw qualifying is set to take place on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Eugene, with the top 12 advancing to the final which is set for Sunday, June 30th, at 6:10 p.m.
