Michael Coleman is the Sports Director for KLTV 7.
He was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the Kansas Jayhawks. Coleman grew up blocks away from the campus.
He played college football and was a running back at Coffeyville Junior College and Southern Illinois University. He also played track. He was inducted into the Coffeyville Junior College Hall of Fame. Michael graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's in speech communication.
Michael has been around coaches all his life, long before becoming a sportscaster. His father was a high school coach and he comes from a family of athletes and sports lovers.
He has worked in many markets and most recently worked at a CBS affiliate in Kansas City as sports director. Prior to that, he worked for NY News 12 in Long Island as sports director.
Michael is no stranger to East Texas. He previously worked for KLTV from 1997 to 2003 before moving to New York.
He is married to his wife Gina, who is a breast cancer survivor whom he calls "a true hero."
Michael prides himself on having a great rapport with athletes and coaches and he's excited to cover sports in the Piney Woods, especially high school football.
The Cowboys rolled into Oxnard, five buses full, with lots of optimism and still they have to figure out a way on how to make the revamp off of line work. That’s what Tyler Smith was talking about.
Since 2001, Dallas Cowboys have come to Oxnard for their summer training camp. The difference this year is that team owner Jerry Jones will not be available as his annual presser as he handles legal issues back at home. But the show must go on.
There are many questions entering this season. There’s a new defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer. However, he and the team’s best defensive player have hardly talked in the three months since the change was made from Dan Quinn, who is now with the Commanders.

There will be heat on the track and in the weather. Coach Toto Brown makes sure not to push the athletes. “We tend to start working on, we don’t just run kids. We teach them what to do through the week, as far as hydration, what to eat, what not to eat. how to save and utilize what you got.”
The young Levering, currently age 13, has been boxing since he was 9 after his parents noted how quickly he took to the science of pugilism.
“This was just opportunities, other opportunities to pursue coaching.”
UT Tyler’s outgoing athletic director, Howard Patterson, says he thinks the NCAA has a problem now that the rules have changed.
The trophy room is a testament to the accomplishments made throughout Patterson’s career at UT-Tyler.
Head coach Shirley and two key players commented on their success in a post match presser.
Coach Janae Shirley won it all 14 years ago, and she has a connection with another championship coach, Mike Reed, who of course led the Lady Patriots to a Div II title just days ago.

Nine student-athletes signed letters of intent to play their sport at the collegiate level during a signing ceremony in the Bullard High School auditorium on May 1, 2024. Earlier in the school year, nine additional athletes signed commitments, bringing the total number of the Class of 2024 Panther athletes playing at the next level to 18.
It’s been a long time since they’ve had the opportunity to compete in tournaments of this caliber.
“I think Coach Jones brings like the whole team a whole bunch of confidence. He just makes the sport, more lovable, and stuff like that. I like the sport,” said player Maddie Birdsong.

“It’s all about finishing strong and getting the stick outside. It all takes effort. We’ve been practicing for a long time.”
After a brilliant career in the SEC as a center he now awaits nervously for the draft.

The Longview Lobos soccer season came to an end earlier in the week, losing to Kingwood Park. But the development of this program in Longview is a husband and wife coaching team: James Wright, and his other set of eyes and ears, wife Margaret.
“She was THSCA’s class 3A super pitcher of the year,” Coach Nineveh Blankenship said.
The school reported a loss of $149,000 last year supporting both teams and it’s been even more money down the drain years prior just for keeping the programs afloat.

When the East Texas celebrity at Tempest Country Club was held, whether you’re new school or old school you weren’t disappointed.
Garret Nuckolls, of Bullard, had a breakout performance at TJC and credited his past experience for his success.
“As far as motivation, man, these, these kids just kind of the enjoy working out, they enjoy getting stronger. Compete all their motivation it comes from, it’s all internal, they just enjoy being in here and getting after it. These kids they work really hard,” said Coach Daniel Scott.
The team environment and culture instilled by Alvidrez has helped the more experienced players continued growth and has provided some guidance when it comes to leading the younger less experienced players.
It was the Region XIV women’s semifinals on Friday, and what a game it was. The winners from Friday’s game play for the championship on Saturday.
This is head coach Rebecca Alvidrez third season in charge and second time leading the Lady Patriots in a NCAA Regionals, giving her the benefit of taking an experienced squad to the tournament.
It’s been a dream season so far but there’s still a lot of work to be done.
This team posted a 22-8 record playing in the red river conference, beating three of the NAIA top 25 teams in the process.
When asked what attracted her to the Lady Apaches, she mentioned how the structure of the program made her feel at home.
