SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Josh Joplin, constable for Smith County Pct. 4, spoke with us about the potential for continued weather damage even in the sunny aftermath of Beryl.

Pct. 4 is Smith County’s most rural district, which Joplin noted as having a higher potential for widespread fallen trees. The constable reminds us that intense heavy rainfall like we saw from Beryl saturates the ground, reducing the hold root systems have to prevent trees from toppling.

Therefore, Joplin said, residents should be aware of the potential for falling trees even in the current sunny weather. He pointed out that whatever is under those large trees could be damaged or destroyed, and so whatever is moveable should be taken to a safer location.
