RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Several Rusk County agencies responded to a vehicle swept off the roadway Monday night in the midst of severe weather.

According to a post from Crims Chapel VFD, they were the first to respond to the call around 7:46 p.m. on CR 283 in the northern part of the county. Rusk County EMC, the fire marshal, Elderville-Lakeville VFD and Rusk County Rescue Unit were called in to assist, they said.

Upon arrival, they found that a vehicle with a single occupant had been swept off the road and completely submerged. The post said the person was able to climb onto the roof of the vehicle, which was about 150 yards off the road in the woods. They were able to locate the person only by following their shouts for help, they said.

With use of water gear, authorities were able to navigate the fast-moving water and reach the occupant to bring them back to safety, the post said. The occupant was uninjured and evaluated by EMS.
