Cooling centers open in Deep East Texas to support storm victims

DEEP EAST TEXAS, Texas (KTRE) - Cooling centers have opened in the counties of Polk and Tyler after many residents were affected by Beryl Monday.
Tyler County Emergency Management Office announced on Facebook Tuesday morning that a cooling center had opened at First Baptist Church at 205 West Wheat Road in Woodville. This center will be operating from noon to 6 p.m. each day, they said.
Polk County Emergency Management gave a list of centers open Tuesday in their area, including Commerce Center at 1017 US Hwy 59 Loop North from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Onalaska Fire Station 51 at 181 Old Groveton Road from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Goodrich ISD from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, and South Polk County VFD at 3036 FM 2610 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The office announced later Tuesday that more centers were opening Wednesday, including Onalaska VFD from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Corrigan City Hall from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. They noted that Goodrich ISD will not reopen as a cooling center Wednesday.
