SABINE COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Cleanup began Tuesday morning after the Holly Lake Marina in Sabine County was badly damaged by Beryl on Monday.

Cleanup crews at the scene say they expect the efforts to last another few days before completion, and they are currently waiting on power to be restored. Along with several RVs being displaced and damaged by the high winds, the surrounding area was littered with fallen limbs and debris, which is being removed.

“It was literally a deep roar that we heard that stopped just as quick as it began, but the damage it caused in just a few seconds is beyond belief,” said RV owner Rhenee Flores.

She and her husband Jos said they were only seconds away from stepping out of their RV when the wind and rain came toward them.

They ran into their bathroom and prayed.

“I just kept screaming for god to protect us and I could hear the popping of the dock as it came off and then everything got quiet,” she said.

One of the affect RVs was fully lifted up on one end against nearby trees, some of which were uprooted. The RV has since been lowered back to the ground.

“We’ve never seen the park like this in all our years here and this has been open for over 50 years,” said Chace Felts.

Felts family owns the campground and said they assessed the damages after the storm.

Several unoccupied RV’s were damaged on the east side of the park by strong winds around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The dam neighboring the marina was damaged by debris as well, and will continue to be cleared and repaired.

“Which is fairly new. it’s completely demolished and we ended up finding pieces of that 50, 60 yards down the shore,” said Felts.

First responders have visited the area Tuesday to check in on residents and assess the area. Authorities reiterated that no one was injured in the area during the storms.

Holly Park Marina owner Ronnie Greer said she and 12 others were inside the shop when the storm blew through.

She said it was a miracle. “Went around every place that had somebody in them.”
