LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - School is out, and there may be a few parents out there who would like to have a way to occupy their kid’s time. Fortunately, there is still availability at a Longview summer art program which can bring out the artistic side of children and adults, alike.

The Longview Museum of Fine Arts Summer Art Classes are in full swing according to LMFA Executive Director Tiffany Jehorek.

“We are in the middle of our summer arts program. And in the morning, we have classes for kids 6 to 10 years old and they can even stay for lunch if they pay a little ten dollars, and they can watch movies and do different things. And then they can stay for the afternoon. Generally, the afternoon has older kids, 10 to 13,” Jehorek said.

And there are a variety of classes with:

“About ten different teachers that we work with during the summer,” Jehorek said.

Like Jessica Riggs who has been teaching Animal Adventures for a while.

“Fifth, sixth summer and I teach art at Sabine,” Riggs said.

She just has to impart art as much as possible. And for LMFA it’s:

“One of our favorite times of year, June and July. All the kids, all the energy they bring. And it’s a four-day class,” Jehorek said.

Evenings there are classes for the older kids, and adults. All classes are:

“An hour and a half to two hours and work on one thing. So, whether it’s your clay building, or you’re working on painting a landscape or a face, whatever it is,” Jehorek said.

Much of it culminates on Thursday with something pretty special.

“The morning and afternoon class has a little mini exhibition of the works that they have created so their parents and friends can come in and see what they have created,” Jehorek said.

So, the classes could be planting the seeds for the next Rembrandt or Michelangelo. Well, maybe after a little snack.

There are still openings available, and classes run until the end of July. Click here for more information.
