TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - As Tropical Storm Beryl continues to make its way toward East Texas, Dan Patrick spoke with KLTV News anchor Blake Holland about precautions residents should take.

Patrick has assumed the role of acting governor while Greg Abbott is outside the United States on state business. Patrick said the state currently expects 6-12 inches of rain to fall on portions of East Texas. He advised residents to stay indoors and off the roads as much as possible.

“My message today is your life is important to us. ... We are prepared to help you, but we need you to stay safe,” Patrick said.

As for preparations for possible disaster circumstances, Patrick said state assets are already prepared to move in coordination with county judges.

“One of the things we’re going to be in touch with is all the co-ops who provide power, because we already have 1.7 million customers without power in southeast Texas,” Patrick said. “My message today is your life is important to us. ... We are prepared to help you, but we need you to stay safe.”
