City of Lufkin offices closed due to power outage, damage across city from Beryl

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - City officials in Lufkin have said they are seeing impacts from Beryl, with downed trees and power lines.

All City of Lufkin offices have been closed as of 3:40 p.m. due to a widespread power outage. The city is also closing the Beryl call center but will continue to take reports of downed trees and power lines through the online reporting system. The online system is for tree, power line and debris issues inside Lufkin city limits. If you live outside the city limits, you will need to report issues to your respective municipality.

Crews are continuing to respond to Beryl-related calls throughout the city. Authorities ask residents to please stay home if possible, but if travel is necessary, slow down, expect delays and never drive through a flooded roadway.

Downed trees and power lines have been reported in the following places:

- 100 block of Alta Street; tree across the road (blocking); 10:45 a.m.

- 900 block of Leslie Lane; tree across the road with power line (blocking - road closed); 11 a.m.

- 500 block of Pershing Avenue; power line issue reported as possible grass/brush fire; 12:23 p.m.

- 800 block of Circle Drive; tree in road (partially blocking); 12:34 p.m.

- 200 block of Falvey Avenue; tree fell on a house - no injuries reported; 12:45 p.m.

- 1400 block of Sleepy Hollow Drive; tree in roadway with power lines down; 12:37 p.m.

- 1300 block of Lark Street; tree and power line down; 1 p.m.

- 300 block of Keys Street; tree on a house – no injuries reported; 1:24 p.m.

- 2800 block of Southwood Drive; power lines crossing the road; 1:34 p.m.

Flooding:

- Bluebonnet Street; water across the road; 12:30 p.m.

Lufkin officials ask that you report power outages to Oncor instead of the call center or non-emergency number. Reports to Oncor can be made through the app, the interactive outage map at https://stormcenter.oncor.com or by texting Oncor at 66267. These platforms also provide real-time updates on outage status and restoration estimates.
