Former SFA Lumberjack Walkup headed to the Olympics with Greece

PIRAEUS, Greece (KTRE) - Former SFA Lumberjack Thomas Walkup is headed to the Olympic games following an 80-69 win by Greece to send the Greeks to the Olympic games for the first time since 2008.

In their first qualifying game, Greece defeated the Dominican Republic 109-82. Walkup finished with 17 points and one rebound. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo led the team with 32 points. The Greeks then faced Egypt in their second game and won 93-71. Walkup scored four points to go along with two rebounds and seven assists.

In the third game for Greece, Walkup led the team in scoring with 19 points, six rebounds and two assists as Greece defeated Luka Doncic and Slovenia 96-68. On Sunday, Walkup and Greece had an opportunity to punch their ticket to Paris for the Olympic games. Greece defeated Croatia 80-69. Walkup finished with six points and five rebounds.

Walkup played at SFA from 2012-2016. His senior year he led the team in scoring (18.1 points per game), rebounds (6.9 per game) and assists (4.5 per game).

The 2024 Olympic games begin on July 26 in Paris, France.
