Dallas man gets probation for stolen car chase through East Texas

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A Dallas man got a probation sentence Monday morning for his involvement in a 2023 chase through East Texas in a stolen car.

Everl Cardenas-Villanueva, 23, was one of three men arrested on Oct. 16 in Smith County. Cardenas-Villanueva was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, unlawful use of criminal instrument, evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and possession of marijuana <2 ounces. He pleaded guilty to the evading charge in Judge Kerry L. Russell’s court on June 10, and was given five years’ probation with 160 hours of community service during his Monday sentencing hearing.

According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in the initial incident, the pursuit began in Minden, La., when a Chevy Camaro believed to have been stolen in Dallas fled from authorities on I-20. The pursuit continued west through East Texas, ending after the three men fled on foot in Smith County after spike traps were used on the car.

The other suspects arrested were Terrence Boley, 19, of Monroe, La., and Christopher Powell, 18, of Dallas. Boley pleaded guilty to his charge of unlawful use of a criminal instrument on March 28, and was sentenced to five years probation on May 6 in Russell’s court. Powell is set for arraignment on July 19 in Russell’s court.

Cardenas-Villanueva‘s probation was transferred to Dallas County.
