TIMPSON, Texas (KLTV) - While the Texas flag still briskly waves at the top of Timpson City Hall, you can see the damage from tropical storm Beryl in the streets below.

It left City Hall, the Quick Stop gas station across the street, and the Quick Care across from it, damaged.

A tornado in Timpson damaged public office buildings, private property and local businesses.

“We never experienced nothing like this before here in Timpson,” says Timpson resident Shareka Johnson.

Johnson says she was getting gas at the Quick Stop gas station on North First Street when what’s believed to be a tornado touched down, tearing up everything in its path.

“It was just like, ‘am I really seeing this happen?’ You know I was just, ‘is this really happening?’” says Johnson.

The roof of city hall is ripped off, with what used to be brick work in the front of the building crumbled to the ground.

The gas station’s awning took a blow, too, caving in from the bottom.

The Whataburger next to it now has a wooden board for a door.

“The front door, it swung open, broke off the hinges,” says Whataburger cashier Kea’asja Randall. She says she was still taking orders as high winds came through Timpson.

“My ears was ringing; it was too much. Once the window flew in my face, I just ran from the window into the office with no windows, none of that, just to try to take cover,” says Randall.

The quick care across the street also was damaged.

Both Randall and Johnson say they’re thankful the damage isn’t worse.

“We hear about it all the time, never happens here in Timpson, and I just thank God that, you know, we still here,” says Johnson.

Shelby County Emergency Management says as of now, they do not know of any injuries.

Multiple roads have also been closed, including FM 1970, Marcus Street, Pecan Street, 4th Street and 5th Street. Only first responders will be allowed on these streets.

No significant injuries have been reported thus far.
