ZAVALLA, Texas (KTRE) - The Zavalla Fourth of July celebration was an all-day event, and halfway through the day the members in the community drove together down main street in a parade.

But it started in the morning; there were activities for families, and retail and food vendors.

The idea came from one organization – the Zavalla Prairie Community Connections.

“There used to be a big tradition of homecoming on July Fourth in this community and everybody came out for a big parade and we’re just trying to kick start some of those old traditions to bring back that hometown feel.” Hony Casey, who organized the celebration, said.

It went beyond just celebrating Independence Day.

“It’s also to bring the community together. You have the City of Zavalla, and you have a bunch of people that live outside the city, but they’re still part of this community. That’s the big hope here, the more of these events we do, we can bring the city and the community together,” Casey said.

They ended the night at the Rodeo Grounds in Zavalla. There were activities for kids, free food, a live performance, and a fireworks show from Zavalla VFD.

The day featured a parade that went down Main Street, and at 6 p.m. more activities will take place at the Rodeo Grounds.
