Suspect in custody, charged in deadly shooting of 16-year-old

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock police now have a suspect in custody after a shooting that left 16-year-old Rudy Romo-Ramirez dead.

Police responded to a shots fired call in the 2500 block of Cornell Street at 12:44 a.m. on Monday, July 1 where they found Romo-Ramirez with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Romo-Ramirez was in a large group when shots were fired. Others in the group fled the scene before police arrived.

After an investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center, police were able to obtain an arrest warrant and charge 19-year-old Christopher Acevedo II with manslaughter.

Acevedo was taken into custody on Friday evening and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he is being held on $300,000 bond.
