LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Two off-duty Laredo Border Patrol agents are being hailed as heroes for stepping into what was a nightmare scenario at a South Texas beach.

On the Fourth of July, two men were taken to the hospital after being bitten by a shark off South Padre Island.

Police reported at least four shark incidents in the area on Thursday.

The Laredo Sector Border Patrol shared on social media on Thursday evening that two off-duty agents from their sector sprang into action during one of the attacks.

According to the post, the two BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue) operators pulled a victim from the water and provided life-saving aid.

In addition to the two shark bites, another person was injured during an encounter with the same shark, which officials believe is responsible for all of Thursday’s attacks.

First responders have been patrolling the shoreline and deploying drones to monitor the area for any further shark activity.
